John C. Maxwell is a brilliant writer and his insights on leadership offer a glimpse into the Bible that is not often explored in depth. In fact, Maxwell begins each Book of the Bible with God’s Role, the Leaders present, Others who influence the story, and Lessons in Leadership. He goes from this to make a handy chart of the Leadership Highlights in the book and were to locate them throughout the reading. He emphasizes the areas of character and response while making sure to relate relevance to our own theologies and applications.

If someone is looking for a Study Bible that provides intense exegesis on verses and passages of Scripture, this is not the Bible for them. However, for the purpose of this particular Bible, Maxwell is brilliant and insightful. The way he communicates to the reader is friendly, challenging, and easy to read. Maxwell sees leadership as a sort of cornerstone for our calling in the church and certainly does and outstanding job communicating that and giving the reader tools to use as they evolve, change, and mold into leaders that God desires them to be.

I give this book 4 out of five stars for the lack of exegesis.
